Suha Waheed – An Exceptional Inspiration for Women Aspiring to Achieve Success in the Corporate Realm

Suha Waheed serves as an outstanding role model for women seeking success in the corporate realm. With a strong drive for learning and personal growth, Suha acquired her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Human Resource Management from the prestigious University of West England (Bristol). In 2016, right after completing her A levels at CHSE, she embarked on her professional journey by joining the Commercial Bank of Maldives as a Junior Executive Assistant. Her exceptional talents and dedication led her to become one of the first recruits to be selected by the bank.

After gaining valuable experience for a year and a half, Suha made the decision to further her education. In 2018, she enrolled in the University of Colombo to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. However, due to the unfavorable circumstances in Sri Lanka in 2019, she had to cut short her studies and return to the Maldives. Upon her return, she joined the Society for Health Education as an HR Officer, utilizing her expertise in the field.

Suha pursued her educational endeavors at UWE simultaneously with her employment at SHE. Her work at SHE gave her valuable exposure to various aspects encompassed within the realm of Human Resource Management (HRM). However, it was during her work and studies that she developed a keen interest in the significance of professional growth. The importance of coaching, mentoring, and enhancing skills captivated her attention, prompting Suha to aspire towards specializing in human resource development, with a specific focus on training programs and related areas. As of August 2022, she currently holds the position of Professional Development Officer at Urbanco.

During our discussion with Suha, she expressed the significance of pursuing higher education while acknowledging its limitations in providing only theoretical knowledge. Suha emphasized the importance of trainings conducted by experienced professionals in various industries, as these trainings allow employees to reflect on their experiences and implement best practices. According to Suha, continuous training plays a crucial role in keeping employees updated on industry trends, equipping them with new skills, and improving their proficiency in existing ones. With the assistance of trainings, she believes employees can enhance their innovation and expertise in their respective fields.

When contemplating the management of workplace disputes, Suha expressed that dealing with diverse personalities and individuals from various backgrounds often leads to disagreements while exchanging ideas. As a result, she highlighted that, team meetings are typically held to specifically address and deliberate on each other’s perspectives, ultimately seeking to find a resolution. Suha emphasized that expressing concerns during these meetings can greatly assist in promptly recognizing and tackling issues at an early stage.

When questioned about the changes she would implement if she had the authority in an organization, Suha expressed her utmost concern for burnout, which was cited as a major issue in the Maldives. To address this, she proposed organizing stress and time management trainings, as well as awareness sessions. Suha firmly believes that it is not solely the employees’ responsibility to combat burnout, but rather the Human Resource Management (HRM) should serve as a guiding force. Instead of enforcing strict rules based on workload, she advocates for the adaptation and implementation of flexible work arrangements. Suha is eagerly anticipating a future where coaching and mentoring become common practices, allowing every individual, regardless of their position, the opportunity to receive recognition.
