Hussain Afeef Contemplates the Management of Human Resources in Maldives

With extensive years of expertise, Afeef is currently serving as the Senior Director of the Talent, Culture, and Quality Assurance Department at LUX Resorts and Hotels. In our chat with Afeef, he emphasized the importance of addressing human resource challenges in Maldives, stating that the current training culture needs to undergo a significant transformation in order to cultivate a more competent workforce. He argued that providing only one or two training sessions per year is insufficient. To ensure the effectiveness of training programs, resorts should actively promote and organize continuous training initiatives. Additionally, he emphasized the need for a thorough analysis of areas where resorts or organizations are lacking, in order to identify and address specific gaps through tailored training programs.

When asked about the specific areas that require more training, Afeef firmly expressed his belief that leadership training is of utmost importance. He further highlighted the deficiency in leadership training, particularly when ordinary staff members are promoted to managerial positions without receiving adequate training. Consequently, he noted that these individuals, despite their managerial title, still function primarily as staff members rather than proficient managers.

In conclusion, Afeef expressed that numerous resorts fail to acknowledge the significance of Human Resources. He pointed out that resorts frequently overlook the fact that the smooth functioning and prosperity of a resort are reliant on its human resource. Afeef further emphasized that in order to enhance the workforce, resorts and organizations must prioritize the importance of human resources and establish well-thought-out strategic objectives to tackle these issues.
