Women in Management Maldives (WIM) has teamed up with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to co-host the 2024 ‘Professional & Career Women Awards.’ In its sixth year, the awards honor Maldivian women excelling in business, leadership, and various professions. Over 170 past winners from diverse fields like banking, hospitality, media, and law have demonstrated the impact women can have as leaders and change-makers.
Dr. Sulochana Segera, Founder/Chairperson of WIM Maldives, emphasized that the awards not only celebrate women leaders but also provide inspiring role models for future generations. “Our collaboration with IFC will create new opportunities for women with the potential to drive inclusive economic growth,” she said.
While women’s labor force participation in the Maldives is still low, with only 43% of women employed compared to 79% of men, initiatives like these are critical for empowering women and fostering resilient, inclusive growth. Wendy Werner, Country Head for IFC, noted that increasing women’s participation in the economy is vital to national progress.
The awards also aim to elevate women’s representation in leadership roles across sectors, helping to open doors for more women to pursue their goals. The event is set to inspire women across the country, with a diverse judging panel including prominent figures from both local and international business and development sectors.
This year’s awards highlight the transformative power of women in the Maldives and beyond, encouraging them to achieve even greater success in their professional journeys.
