Two distinguished chefs from the Maldives have embarked on an exciting journey to Singapore to represent their nation at the prestigious Asian Gelato Cup 2024, held from October 23 to 24 at the FHA-HoReCa event. The two-member team, comprising Chef Ali Shamoon of Crossroads Maldives and Chef Mariyam Lahufa of Jumeirah Maldives Olhahali Island, departed today, accompanied by team manager and Chefs Guild of Maldives’ Secretary General, Chef Fathimath Umar, who will be overseeing their participation in this highly anticipated competition.
In preparation for the event, the Maldivian chef duo underwent rigorous training sessions at Crossroads Maldives. Their practice was meticulously guided by Chef Hassan Thohir, Chief Baker at Crossroads Maldives, and supported by Team Assistant, Chef Mariyam Shaazy, a skilled pâtissier and Executive Committee Member of the Chefs Guild of Maldives. These intensive sessions were designed to hone their skills and perfect their techniques in anticipation of the demanding competition.
The Asian Gelato Cup 2024 is a celebration of culinary artistry, creativity, and innovation in the realm of gelato. Competitors are tasked with showcasing their talents across various categories, including gelato making, plated desserts, gelato cakes, gourmet gelato-infused entrées, artistic showpieces, and a grand buffet presentation. This event not only spotlights exceptional talent but also serves as a qualifying round for the prestigious Gelato World Cup 2026, set to take place in Rimini, Italy.
