On February 5th, 2025, an informative training session on “Destination Marketing” was held in Himmafushi, organized by CTI Maldives and the Secretariat of K. Himmafushi Council. The session, led by Dr. Hussain Sunny Umar, a highly respected expert in tourism and marketing, who’s aim is to equip local tourism operators with essential tools to elevate their destination’s profile in the competitive global market.

The session attracted a diverse group of participants including community members and guesthouse owners of the islands, who were keen to learn effective marketing in order to market Himmafushi as a premier tourism destination. Dr. Umar shared invaluable insights on importance building a strong brand identity, digital marketing strategy and how beneficial building strong relationships between local island businesses and international travel networks.
The session also explored into successful global tourism branding models from well-known global locations such as France, Greece and other destinations that built strong brand image using their unique cultures and other unique assets to create a strong presence in the tourism market.

The president of K.Himmafushi council also highlighted the importance of creating powerful brand image in the island’s tourism future. He emphasized, “Our aim is to make Himmafushi a brand that resonates globally, on par with renowned destinations like Bali and Phuket. By building awareness and promoting our unique culture, heritage, and natural beauty, we can elevate Himmafushi to the top of international tourism destinations.”
