Mohamed Shujau has been appointed as the Acting General Secretary of FAM following the resignation of Nahil Ahmed Siddiq from the position last week.
According to the information received, the appointment was made by the FAM Normalization Committee, which has been overseeing the association’s operations since the resignation.
Shujau, an experienced professional, has worked in senior positions in various government companies over the past 29 years. He most recently held the position of Secretary General of Addu City Council. Throughout his career, Shujau has held important positions such as General Manager of STO and Board Director of Maldives Gas. He has had extensive training and experience in management and leadership.
The Normalization Committee is a committee established by FIFA. The committee was created to assist in managing FAM during a period of instability and challenges. After the resignation of the former General Secretary, committee member Ismail Simon served as the interim General Secretary.
While FIFA has set July 31, 2025, as the deadline to hold new elections for FAM (Football Association of Maldives), the committee has also been tasked with ongoing issues such as recovering funds lost due to financial matters related to former FAM president Bassam Adeel Jaleel. The committee’s responsibilities include amending FAM’s constitution and working to resolve the association’s debts.
After FAM’s operations had been stagnant for ages, the appointment of Shujau is seen as an important step taken to stabilize FAM and improve its management.
