Inspiring the Next Generation of Journalists in Ha. Uligan

The Maldives Media Council recently hosted a workshop in Ha. Uligan, with an emphasis on cultivating the skills and passion needed to sustain journalism’s future in the Maldives. As part of this enriching experience, students had the invaluable opportunity to learn from Fayaz Moosa, a celebrated, award-winning photojournalist known for his impactful visuals and storytelling expertise. His presence offered an insider’s perspective on the dynamic and demanding world of photojournalism, inspiring attendees with real-world insights that went beyond the classroom.

Accompanying Fayaz Moosa was Shamaan Shakir, a seasoned photojournalism trainer, who has been guiding students through the technical and ethical facets of capturing stories with authenticity. Together, they led engaging sessions that explored both the art and responsibility of photojournalism, underscoring the importance of conveying truth through images. Students gained practical knowledge on framing, lighting, and visual storytelling while also discussing the critical role of journalists in holding a mirror to society and advocating for justice and transparency.

This collaboration marks a significant step in the Maldives Media Council’s mission to foster new talent and uphold high standards in Maldivian journalism. By investing in youth education and professional mentorship, the Council aims to shape future journalists who are not only skilled but also deeply committed to ethical reporting. Such initiatives ensure that the values and skills essential to the field are passed on, preserving journalism as a force for societal progress.
