Auditor General Mr. Hussain Niyazy, along with a delegation from the Auditor General’s Office, attended the prestigious 16th ASOSAI (Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions) Assembly in New Delhi, India, from September 23 to 27, 2024. Mr. Niyazy was joined by Assistant Auditor General Mr. Ibrahim Fazeel, FCMA, CGMA, FCA, CIA, CMIIA, QIAL (MSc. Audit), Director Mr. Ahmed Samih, ACMA, CGMA, FCA, and Manager Ms. Raushan Imad. This triennial assembly brought together heads of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from 46 member countries, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among key leaders in public sector auditing.

The ASOSAI Assembly, held every three years, serves as a vital platform for engaging with counterparts from SAIs across the region, as well as with international partners like the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI). Through its long-standing support of SAIs, the INTOSAI IDI has contributed significantly to capacity-building efforts via in-kind training and exposure programmes. This assembly provided an invaluable opportunity for Auditor General Niyazy and his team to strengthen relationships with other SAIs and explore avenues for further developing the institution’s organizational capacity.

Beyond the formal sessions, the gathering enabled the Maldives’ delegation to engage in meaningful discussions with regional and international partners, further solidifying bilateral relations. The participation of Mr. Niyazy and his team highlighted their commitment to enhancing audit practices in the Maldives while seeking out new opportunities for professional growth and organizational development. The Assembly underscored the importance of regional cooperation in improving audit standards and fostering transparency across member states.
