Mohamed Raif: Reflecting on His Years of Dedication in the Tourism Industry

Mohamed Raif hails from the beautiful island of AA. Maalhos, nestled within the picturesque Ari Atoll of the Maldives. He is a passionate individual who possesses a profound fascination for the realm of human resources. Raif successfully attained his education from the esteemed Gateway College of Sri Lanka. Eager to expand his knowledge and skills further, he then enrolled at Thames College in the vibrant city of Colombo to delve into advanced studies focusing on the intricacies of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Concurrently, he also gained practical experience as an intern at Anantara Kalutara Resort in 2018.

Before assuming the role of a human resources coordinator at CCR Komandoo Island Resort & Spa, Raif had professional experience at many resorts in the Maldives, including Coco Bodu Hithi, Baglioni Resort Maldives, and Kuramathi Maldives, which marked the beginning of his career. Raif’s professional experience in the field of Human Resources commenced in 2021 at Coco Bodu Hithi, where he assumed the role of HR Coordinator. Throughout his tenure, he has consistently demonstrated a commendable level of proficiency in his position. Raif firmly believe that his expertise lies in the realm of prioritizing employee well-being and fostering a culture of employee engagement, which he consider to be of utmost significance in the field of HR.

When inquired about achieving a harmonious work-life balance, Raif expressed the significance of maintaining such equilibrium for the overall well-being, productivity, and dedication of individuals, particularly in tourism industry. According to him, a major factor contributing to work-life imbalance is the presence of inaccurate or unreasonable expectations that we impose on ourselves. To circumvent this issue, Raif recommends that we prioritize effective and regular communication with our teams, ensuring transparency and honesty when discussing our objectives, deadlines, priorities, and providing feedback. Additionally, he stressed the importance of respecting their personal boundaries and preferences, such as working hours, availability, and appropriate channels of communication. Raif further emphasized the importance of employee engagement through creating a positive and healthy culture in the teams. He highlighted that it help everyone feel respected, engaged, and valued at work and in life.

In closing, Raif put forward a suggestion to the younger generation, urging them to maintain their passion and unwavering determination. He emphasized that the path they are embarking upon may present various difficulties, yet maintaining a positive attitude towards their work and persisting in the face of obstacles will ultimately lead them to success. Additionally, he offered further guidance, encouraging them to have faith in their capabilities and to continuously strive towards achieving their goals without ever giving up.
