Hussain Sazil – Expresses his Enthusiasm for Uplifting Human Resources in Maldives

Hussain Sazil, more famously known amongst his peers and industry colleagues as Fasy, currently holds the esteemed position of Assistant Human Resources Manager at SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton. With a career spanning over 7 years, Fasy has honed his skills and left his mark in various organizations, including government entities and the dynamic hospitality industry. This journey in the world of human capital management has modeled Fasy to be one of the youngest HR leaders in the industry, with a remarkable passion for driving excellence in Human Resource Management.

There is more to Fasy than meets the eye. In addition to his impressive HR career, he also enjoys a vibrant secondary career as a DJ. What sets him apart in this field is his unique ability to blend his people skills in this line of work seamlessly into the realm of employee engagement; an area he is especially passionate about when it comes to people management. Fasy understands that work is not just about the daily grind, but also about creating an environment where employees feel valued, motivated, and engaged. He continues to demonstrate unwavering commitment to fostering an engaging culture of care and compassion amongst all employees in this dynamic environment.

In our conversation with Fasy, when questioned about his concerns regarding the Human Resource issues in the current workforce of the hospitality industry in Maldives, he expressed that there is a noticeable deficiency in Maldivian workers within the industry. Additionally, he stated that newcomers to the field may not consistently demonstrate a strong commitment to their work. He explained that these individuals might sometimes struggle to fully engage with their assigned tasks and the overall workplace, which can result in challenges for the resorts, including a higher rate of employee turnover.

According to Fasy, the key to addressing the dynamic needs of the younger generation in the tourism industry, particularly their workplace commitment and loyalty, can be achieved by enhancing the education system that supports them. Fasy strongly advocates for an emphasis on secondary school education as a potential solution. He suggests that students in grades 8 to 10 should receive comprehensive information about the wide range of job opportunities available to them and guidance on pursuing these careers. Currently, this type of education is insufficient, which contributes to uncertainty among the younger generation regarding their desired work environments and areas of expertise.

Fasy also emphasizes the importance of offering job-related counseling to fresh school graduates, helping them assess their strengths and identify suitable career paths. In an effort to support this, SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton in collaboration with Crossroads Maldives, consistently offers familiarization and educational programs such as Internships to local high school students by showcasing the diverse opportunities they can venture into as they begin their promising careers.
