Ali Shaukath Reflects Towards his One-of-a-kind Journey in the Tourism Industry

Ali Shaukath is a remarkable individual in the field of Human Resources in Maldives, known for his numerous prestigious awards, including the esteemed Top-Most HR Leaders Global Award presented at the 2022 World HRD Congress. With a career spanning since 2002, Shaukath initially started in the Front Office and Sales Reservations departments within the Hospitality Industry. However, in 2011, he transitioned to the Human Resources Department, where he assumed various roles and responsibilities.

Shaukath is renowned for his humble and grounded nature, always staying connected with his roots. In 2017, he achieved the position of Human Resources Manager at Dhevanafushi Maldives Luxury Resorts, operated by Accor hotels. Recently, served as the Director of Human Resources Manager at ozen Life Maadhoo Maldives, a part of Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts.

Throughout his career, Shaukath has gained valuable experience working with renowned international brands such as Cinnamon Resorts Maldives, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, Viceroy Maldives, Velaa Private Island, Jumeirah Dhevanafushi Maldives, Accor Hotels, Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts, and Oblu Select Sangeli Maldives.

Having extensive knowledge and experience in this field, we sought advice from Shaukath regarding the most effective methods for retaining young talent in this industry. According to him, one of the crucial factors for retaining employees in the resort is to create an enjoyable work environment. This can be achieved by organizing various staff activities such as futsal competitions, staff picnics, and sports events. Additionally, there should be recreational activities specifically designed for women. Furthermore, Shaukath emphasized the importance of providing convenient access to the capital city, Male’.

Shaukath reiterated the significance of organizing training and development initiatives for young individuals engaged in the tourism sector, as it is crucial for ensuring the longevity of the industry. He highlighted the youth introductory program held at the renowned Cinnamon Island Resort, situated in Alidhoo, as an exemplary illustration of their commitment to equipping young individuals with necessary skills and knowledge through training.

Surprisingly, his perspective on the younger generation stands out positively in comparison to most other senior Human Resource executives. He acknowledges that the younger generation is significantly better educated than their predecessors, and he encourages us to fully leverage this advantage. He firmly believes that if we do so, we can expect to witness talented young Maldivians occupying top positions in the future.
