Ahmed Asbaab Contemplates His Journey in the Field of Human Resources

Ahmed Asbaab, the present Director of Human Resources at the magnificent OZEN Reserve Bolifushi, serves as a genuine source of inspiration for individuals keen on pursuing a career in the tourism industry. Initially embarking on his professional journey in the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2002, Asbaab made a seamless transition into the tourism sector in 2009. Since then, he has garnered valuable experience working at esteemed resorts such as Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, Soneva Fushi Resort and Residence, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa and St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, among others.

In his line of work, he frequently encounters employees who display aggressive behavior. Hence, we inquired about his approach to handling angry and frustrated employees. According to him, the key lies in understanding. Asbaab emphasized that in order to effectively address their concerns, one must empathize with their difficulties. He believes that we can never truly comprehend the challenges someone else is facing. Therefore, it is crucial to show empathy, treat the employee with respect and consideration, and above all, provide them with a safe space to express their frustrations and grievances.

In addition, he emphasized the significance of effective communication in both professional and personal relationships. He believes it is crucial to actively listen and comprehend the other person’s perspective, even if you cannot provide an immediate response. He added that in such cases, it is always feasible to respond to them at a later time. Asbaab further mentioned that it is completely understandable if you are unable to respond immediately. Reaching out to them later will also demonstrate your concern and sincere efforts to address their concerns.

In conclusion, he offered advice to the younger generation, urging them to begin their careers from the bottom. He observed that many young individuals come into the workforce with degrees, expecting prestigious positions right away. However, he emphasized that higher positions can only be earned through years of experience, and education serves as an additional advantage to reach such positions. Drawing from his own experience, he highlighted that he started from the very bottom and gradually climbed his way to success. Moreover, he stressed the significance of gaining exposure to different workplaces, as he believed it enhances one’s professional experience by working in diverse environments.
