Ali Ashraf – 25-Year Journey in the Tourism Industry

Ali Ashraf, a seasoned professional in his mid-thirties, holds the esteemed position of Director of Human Resources at the exquisitely enchanting Lily Beach Resort. His journey in the hospitality industry began in 1998 when he commenced his career as a front office receptionist at Kuramathi. He dedicated one and a half years to this role before transitioning to a small travel agency, where he diligently served for a continuous six-month period. Building upon his two years of prior experience in the field, Ali Ashraf embarked upon a new chapter in his professional life by joining the esteemed Lily Beach Resort as a reservation agent. Displaying exceptional skills and dedication, he swiftly climbed the career ladder and was subsequently promoted to the position of Reservations Manager. In 2009, an exciting opportunity presented itself, leading Ali Ashraf to transition to the Human Resources department, where he has been an integral part ever since.

Over the years he has dedicated to the industry, he expresses concern that there is a lack of young locals entering this field. He believes that the main reason behind the scarcity of young talent in this industry is the knowledge gap. In a prominent tourist destination like Maldives, he asserts that there is a shortage of educational institutions catering to this industry. Additionally, he emphasizes the need for comprehensive awareness programs that cover all aspects of this industry. Currently, people tend to associate working in a resort solely with roles such as waitressing, room service, or front office management. However, he emphasizes that the industry encompasses much more than that. Specifically, he highlights the importance of IT, finance, and security, which are areas where many people are unaware of the potential opportunities for young talent.
