Nizna Nizar, who works as a Human Resources Manager at the exquisite Kandolhu Island Maldives resort, is among the few women employed in the prestigious tourism industry. Although the number of women in this sector is gradually increasing, Nizna acknowledges that their representation remains quite low. She reveals that when she first entered the industry, it was almost taboo for women to work in this field, and unfortunately, that perception still persists. Nizna emphasizes that the challenges faced by women in the tourism industry are not inherent to the work itself, but rather stem from societal norms and expectations imposed upon them.
When asked about possible solutions to address this issue, Nizna highlights the need for comprehensive awareness programs throughout the Maldives. She believes that there are many talented young women who could contribute greatly to the industry, but they are hesitant due to their families’ reservations about this line of work. Nizna concludes by emphasizing that regardless of one’s gender or chosen industry, it is ultimately one’s behavior and actions that shape the perception of oneself. While no job is entirely risk-free, the tourism sector is committed to providing a safe and supportive workplace for all. By staying informed, prepared, and confident in your abilities, you can enjoy a fulfilling and secure career in this dynamic field
